Farrar, Straus & Giroux, a renowned book publisher of award-winning international authors, engaged TEK to design their new offices in Manhattan. The primary goal was to create an environment that is both inviting for visiting authors as well as inspiring and accommodating for employees, within a limited budget.
Programmatic requirements determined that private offices line the perimeter; and open workspace, support spaces, as well as more private offices are grouped in the middle. This configuration posed the challenge of admitting light to the interior; however, editors require relatively sound proof offices, so full glass partitions were not an option. Instead, TEK developed a repetitive system of narrow floor-to-ceiling fitted glass slots that allow light through without compromising sound insulation.
