TEK designed the new headquarters space for a New York-based travel organization that specializes in providing full service expeditions for the seasoned traveler. The site is the top floor of a former industrial building on Manhattan’s lower west side. Our goal was to create a space that abstractly evoked through form, light and materials the sensibility of travel and discovery, and in the words of Lindblad’s President, to begin the experience of adventure itself. The space is devised as a simple interior bar, housing offices, meeting spaces and other support functions, leaving most of the balance of this linear space open to light and view. A large funnel-like swath, lined in bamboo, cuts through the bar as a major entry gesture, leading to an employee lounge and café space. Executive offices are grouped behind a series of blue and green resin sliding panels. In addition to the office and presentation space the project features a 3,000 square foot roof deck and garden with views of the waterways around New York City.
