The director of this outpatient clinic desired a facility that would provide first rate HIV and AIDS care within a welcoming, imaginative, and non-standard environment. This facility was built within an existing 19th century hospital structure and required a total reconfiguration. Using economical materials, emphasis was put on unexpected color palettes, whimsical patterns and indirect lighting. Through the use of warm colors for the walls, floors and ceilings, and interesting forms, TEK achieved a clinic that defies the usual expectations for such a facility. Once inside the exam rooms, dental suites, procedure rooms, and counseling rooms, the spaces transition to a calmer, more tranquil feel.
